Foundation elements

The different chemical elements also have their place in our subtle system and share the character of our subtle energies. At the very base, in our first chakra which is the foundation of the whole system, is the place of carbon. Carbon is the essence of life as we know it in a material sense, just as innocence - the main power of the first chakra - is the base of all higher, spiritual life. Carbon is the element that can give and take in equal measure when forming bonds, just as innocent children take turns in play without worrying about give and take but just enjoying the joy that they are getting from the play, the joy of the bond itself, of togetherness.

Carbon can be the hardest material, and it can be the softest as well. It can be the most shiny and translucent or the very definition of opaque or of black. It is a truly extraordinary and unique element just as our innocence and wisdom are the most special and powerful qualities in a human being. The great saints were well known for being puzzling to common people just as those different states of carbon are so apparently contradictory.

And carbon is in the centre, it supports the entire evolution because it is the element on which the living world is built. To create it carbon gets firstly the help from the left, where the main element is hydrogen, which is always giving just as a pure left side always gives unselfish love to others. It also gets help from the power of oxygen on the right side that can generate the warmth and the exchange of energy in different forms, as well as play a key role in attack and defence when needed. When evolved to the highest stage, both sides end in light which is the element of our sixth chakra. Hydrogen can create the Sun through fusion, and of course carbon and oxygen can result in the fire that gives the light and removes all impurities.

Similarly our innocence and wisdom, when evolved to the highest stage, shine outside as the light of purity, compassion and forgiveness that were so evidently embodied in Lord Jesus Christ. Light is the only matter that has an absolute quality to itself against which everything else measures, just as Lord Jesus remains an absolute ideal, though having lived in the material, relative world. When we establish our meditation in thoughtless awareness we start understanding and spontaneously getting closer to that ideal, and it is one that our mind cannot reach because it is in the absolute domain. The only capable vehicle for that ascent to the pure reaction-less awareness is naturally generated by the Kundalini flow, just as the mother always helps the child further and further in his growth.
